What is ‘Ally Ship’ and how can companies do more?

The evidence shows that when men are deliberately engaged in gender inclusion programs, 96% of organisations see progress — compared to only 30% of organisations where men are not engaged.

Male allies play a vital part in creating and developing a truly inclusive workplace – and society.

Yet when it comes to gender equity and female leadership it is often regarded as a ‘women’s issue’ and one for women to therefore solve.

This is far from the truth of it and together we can create a more inclusive culture for everyone.

Workshops

Gemma is involved in designing and delivering ally workshops to bring about culture changes in organisations. This includes interactive sessions and coaching that support more allies in the workplace to learn how they can better support all women’s career progression so that there is a whole organisation commitment to female leaders and gender diversity.

Gemma recently delivered a session on male allyship for the men on our senior leadership team. As a group, we were keen to be supportive of our female colleagues without patronising, undermining or disenfranchising them.

An hour with Gemma absolutely equipped us to do that and we’re seeing a real impact already. Some colleagues are adding allyship into their own and their direct reports’ objectives and we’re all putting into practice the simple, practical tools we now have in showing support for all the inclusion work being taken forward, not only gender.

Gemma has also supported us set up a Women in Housing network which is seeing brilliant levels of engagement. Very highly recommended.

Train the Trainer Allyship sessions are for organisations that want to develop their employees internally to build an inclusive culture through the use of ally champions.

It gives participants the opportunity to encourage open discussions around allyship, build confidence and subject matter expertise, so that they can help embed the ethos and practical strategies of allyship across the organisation having a greater reach and impact.

Training materials and ongoing accountability and support are included.

This session was the most insightful, knowledgable and inspirational that I attended for a while. I was buzzing all evening after the session with ideas on how to become a better ally. Worth every penny, and Gemma is also a genius in engaging.

Stand by Me can be ‘Men Only’ workshops and are there to create a safe space for men who area ready to be better allies in the workplace to explore their own unconscious biases and develop a greater understanding of the barriers that women face. It is also raises awareness about intersectionality and how that impacts on everyone at work.

Gemma is a great communicator. I would highly recommend attending one of her sessions. I learnt so much after just one hour. Great work!
